About Lisa Thaler

Lisa Thaler, LCSW opened her private psychotherapy practice in Austin in 2019 after having maintaining a practice in New York City for the past 28 years. She received her BA from Amherst College, her MSW from New York University, and completed her post-graduate Psychoanalytic training at The Women’s Therapy Centre Institute. She has been a faculty member of the Women’s Therapy Centre Institute since 2004.

Lisa has dedicated the majority of her career to the treatment of eating disorders, treating adolescents, adult men and women, and families, and has provided supervision/ consultation for other clinicians interested in expanding their knowledge base. She has worked collaboratively with physicians, psychiatrists and nutritionists, when clinically indicated. Lisa has led eating disorder groups for New York University’s Counseling Center, The Renfrew Center and for The Women’s Therapy Centre Institute.

Additionally, she has treated individuals with a host of other maladies; trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety, depression, phobias, loss, change of phase of life issues, sexuality, gender expressions and confusions, Dissociative Identity Disorder and adult ADHD.

Lisa has enjoyed treating couples with an assortment of conflicts; communication issues, sexual problems, unarticulated feelings, the transition to parenthood, conflicting needs, and infidelity. She has become increasingly fascinated by the complex realms of sexuality and eroticism and, toward that end, has been studying with Esther Perel since 2014.
